Erosion–Corrosion of Novel Electroless Ni-P-NiTi Composite Coating

The lifespan of low-carbon steel petroleum pipelines can often be shortened by the erosion–corrosion damage caused their service conditions. Applying electroless Ni-P coating is a promising option to protect from environment due its high hardness and corrosion resistance. However, has low toughness but increased addition NiTi ductile particles. This work produced Ni-P-NiTi coatings different thicknesses on AISI 1018 substrates compared erosion, corrosion, behaviors. methodology involved conducting slurry pot tests substrate, monolithic coatings, composite coatings. Erosion resistance was highly influenced thickness, presumably because relationship between erosion-induced compressive stresses coating’s as-plated internal stresses. nanoparticle effective at improving coating. Pitting cracking were present after had relatively uniform material loss. Overall, substrate worst 25 μm thick best.
